Formats

File Format Errors

OceanIR supports three image formats: JPG, PNG, and WebP. If you receive a format error, your image is in an unsupported format.

JPG / JPEG

Excellent compatibility

PNG

High quality

WebP

Smaller file sizes

Unsupported Formats

The following formats are NOT supported and will be rejected:

  • -TIFF / TIF - Use image converter to convert to JPG
  • -BMP - Outdated format, convert to PNG or JPG
  • -GIF - Animated format not suitable for analysis
  • -HEIC / HEIF - Apple format, convert to JPG before uploading
  • -RAW formats (CR2, NEF, ARW) - Export to JPG from photo editor
02
Size Limits

File Size Too Large

OceanIR has a 20MB upload limit. Images exceeding this size will be rejected with a file size error.

Recommended File Sizes

Ideal: Under 2MB

Fast upload times, optimal performance

Acceptable: 2MB - 10MB

Slightly slower upload, still reliable

Too Large: Over 20MB

Upload will fail, must be resized

Resize Images

Use free online tools to reduce file size without losing quality:

  • -TinyPNG: tinypng.com - Excellent compression for PNG files
  • -Compressor.io: compressor.io - Supports JPG, PNG, WebP
  • -ImageOptim: imageoptim.com - Desktop app for Mac users

Reduce Resolution

OceanIR doesn't require ultra-high resolution. Resize to standard dimensions:

Recommended

1920x1080 (Full HD) or 1280x720 (HD)

Generic Errors

"Upload Failed" Generic Error

If you see a generic "Upload Failed" message without specific details, try these solutions:

Check Internet Connection

Network interruptions can cause upload failures. Verify your connection is stable and retry the upload.

Disable VPN or Proxy

Some VPN services or proxy servers interfere with file uploads. Temporarily disable these services and try again.

Try a Different Browser

Browser-specific issues can prevent uploads. If the problem persists, try Chrome, Firefox, or Edge.

Clear Browser Cache & Cookies

Cached data can interfere with uploads. Clear your browser's cache and cookies.

Chrome

Settings → Privacy → Clear browsing data → All time

05
Drag & Drop

Drag & Drop Not Working

If drag-and-drop upload isn't functioning, use the click-to-browse alternative or try these fixes:

Use Click to Browse

Click anywhere in the upload zone to open a file browser. Select your image manually instead of dragging.

Check Browser Permissions

Some browsers require permission to access local files. Check that bower.site has file access permissions enabled.

Disable Browser Extensions

Security extensions can block drag-and-drop functionality. Temporarily disable extensions or add bower.site to your allowlist.

Pro Tip

Dragging files directly from cloud storage (Google Drive, Dropbox) may not work. Download the file to your computer first, then upload to OceanIR.
